SB: Wildcats Split Day Two at Fastpitch Dreams Tournament; Mercy Rule Franciscan 13-2 and Drop Nail Biter 2-1 to FDU-Florham

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The SUNY Poly softball team split their two games on Monday afternoon. In the first game, the 'Cats mercy-ruled Franciscan 13-2, recording 13 hits and five extra-base hits. In their second game of the day, the Wildcats lost a low-scoring contest 2-1 to undefeated FDU-Florham. The Wildcats are now 2-1 this season.

 

GAME ONE: (5 innings)

Franciscan – 2

SUNY Poly – 13

WP: Trinity Critelli (2-0)

LP: Kimberly McDaniels (0-1)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Wildcats jumped to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to a three-run homer from Kimberly Birmingham. SUNY Poly scored again in the first on an RBI double by Amy DeSena. The Wildcats tacked on another pair of runs in the second on an RBI single by Kimberly Birmingham and an RBI double by Aeron Hamm.

 

Franciscan scored in the top of the third, but the Wildcats put the game to bed in the fourth. They scored seven runs to take an 11-run lead which triggered the mercy rule after a scoreless fifth for Franciscan. In the big inning, Ava Faragon had an RBI single and stole home; Aeron Hamm had an RBI Double, Taylor

Hunter had an RBI double, Kelley Powel drove in two with an RBI single, and scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

 

Trinity Critelli was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats. She threw four innings, allowed two runs to score, and had six strikeouts. She improved to 2-0 this season.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Kimberly Birmingham went 2-for-2 at the plate, including the homer, and finished with four runs batted in (RBI) to lead the Wildcats' offense.
  • Poly's Aeron Hamm went 3-for-3 with two RBI.
  • Taylor Hunter contributed one RBI on a double for the Wildcats.
  • SUNY Poly finished with 13 hits as a team, had five extra-base hits, and stole four bases.
  • Kimberly McDaniels was the only player for Franciscan with multiple hits in the game. She also had a double.
  • Carissa Cedillo and Laila Rackley each had a hit and an RBI for the Barons.

 


 

GAME TWO:

FDU-Florham – 2

SUNY Poly – 1

WP: Bianca Disanto (1-0)

LP: Caitlin Reilly (0-1)

 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

FDU-Florham took an early lead in the first inning when Jada Lambright singled down the right-field line to bring in Heather Priante.

SUNY Poly tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Maddelyn Hoehn came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit an RBI single up the middle to score Amy DeSena from third.

 

The game remained tied until the top of the seventh inning, when Kristina Pelano hit a double to left field, allowing Heather Priante to score, giving FDU-Florham a 2-1 lead.

 

The Wildcats had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh but came up just short.

 

Bianca Disanto picked up the win on the mound for FDU-Florham. She allowed only one earned run and struck out two in 3.2 innings pitched. Ciara Hoffman came in for relief, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing no runs.

 

Caitlin Reilly took the loss for SUNY Poly, giving up two earned runs and striking out seven in seven innings pitched.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Maddelyn Hoehn went 2-for-4 with a double for the Wildcats. She drove in Poly's only run of the game.
  • Ava Faragon also went 2-for-4 with a double for SUNY Poly.
  • Amy DeSena recorded the only other hit for the Wildcats. She singled in the fourth.
  • Jada Lambright was the driving force for FDU-Florham. She went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
  • Heather Priante went 1-for-2 with a triple and a pair of walks. She scored both runs for the Devils.
  • Kristina Pelano went 1-for-4 with a double for FDU-Florham.  

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will be back in action on Tuesday against Curry and Presque Isle. The Wildcats will play Curry at 3:00 PM and Presque Isle at 5:00 PM. Both games will be played at North Myrtle Beach Park - Field #6.
