SB: Wildcats Take Two From Canton on the Road.

CANTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly softball team earned their first doubleheader sweep of the season on Saturday over North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent SUNY Canton. The Wildcats won game one 4-2 and game two 15-6. Game one was a pitcher's duel between Caitlin Reilly and Canton's Kayla Chavarri. Reilly threw a complete game with six strikeouts and allowed just two runs. Chavarri struck out 14 and allowed just six hits. Game two was a different story entirely. The Wildcat offense came out of the gate hot and cruised to a mercy-rule win.

GAME ONE:

Caitlin Reilly and the Wildcat defense took care of business in game one. Both offenses were quiet through three innings, but SUNY Poly struck pay-dirt in the fourth inning on a solo home run to left-center by Chalee Wratten to take a 1-0 lead. SUNY Poly would score again in the fifth on an RBI single by Makayla Sweeting and a two-RBI double by Ariel Smith. SUNY Canton would make a push in the bottom of the final frame, but it would not be enough to overcome the late game deficit.

GAME NOTES:

  • Caitlin Reilly improved to 2-1 on the year with the complete-game win. She struck out six and allowed seven hits in the game.

  • Aeron Hamm went 2-3 in the game with a double and a run scored for the Wildcats.

  • Ariel Smith extended her hit streak to five games with a double in the fifth. She went 1-4 with a pair of RBIs.

  • Makayla Sweeting went 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

  • Chalee Wratten hit her first home run of the season in the game. It was the second of her career.

GAME 2:

The Wildcats struck first and struck hard in game two, opening up the game with an eight run inning. Chalee Wratten doubled in the inning to drive in a run. Jordan Penoyer hit a two run homer. Amy DeSena had an RBI double and Ariel Smith had a two-RBI triple. Canton also had a solid first inning, scoring five runs on a double and two RBI singles, but the damage had already been done. The Wildcats won the game 15-6.
