SB: Wildcats Drop First NEAC Games of the Season to Keuka.

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly softball team stumbled in their first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action of the season on Saturday against Keuka College. The Wildcats lost both games of the doubleheader to the Wolves. Game Two of the doubleheader was a rare no-hitter for Keuka College pitcher Whitney Tyler. The Wildcats are now 2-10 overall with a 0-2 record in NEAC play.

GAME 1:

In game one Keuka got out to an early lead and never looked back. They scored two runs in the second, one in the fourth, and five in the fifth inning to force a mercy rule. The Wildcats were able to muster up just three hits and made five errors in the field in what was a tough loss.

NOTABLES:

  • Ashleigh Johnson (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) was the losing pitcher for the Wildcats. She threw four innings, allowing nine hits and one earned run. She struck out two batters and walked four.

  • Keuka's Colleen Mooney was the winning pitcher. She threw five innings of shutout ball striking out four Wildcats.

  • Courtney Morton (Whitesboro, N.Y.), Bailey Haddad (Frankfort, N.Y.), and Jordan Penoyer (Sherrill, N.Y.) each had a hit for the Wildcats in the in the game.

  • Jesse Hammers was the only player with a multiple-hit game. The Keuka shortstop went 2-4 with two RBIs.

  • Keuka College scored eight runs on nine hits and made just one error in the game.

GAME 2:

Game two was more of the same for the Wildcats who were against shutout this time in no-hit fashion. Keuka's Whitney Tyler threw a gem of a game allowing no runs and no hits. She struck out five Wildcats.  Kayla Maiolo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was on the losing end of the decision for the Wildcats. She allowed nine hits and three earned runs while striking out four batters in the game.

NOTABLES:

  • Jesse Hammers had another big game for the Wolves. She went 2-3 in the game, recording her second multiple-hit game of the doubleheader

  • Janessa Vivaldi drove in a game-high four runs going to 2-3 with a double.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats next double header will be on April 3rd against Elmira College in Elmira. Game one is set for a 3:30 PM start with game two beginning shortly after. The Wildcats game against Wells College,Originally scheduled for Sunday March 31st was postponed due to scheduling conflicts and inclement weather. Those games will be made up at a later date.
