SB: Wildcats Split Day Two in Myrtle Beach to Earn Their First Win of 2019

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. The SUNY Poly softball team looked to bounce back in their second day of action at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach. The Wildcats dropped both games on Sunday but bounced back on Monday, splitting the two games to earn their first win of 2019.

GAME 1:

The Wildcats fell behind early in the game on an RBI single from Centenary's Justine Stefura. The 'Cats would strike back in the top of the 3rd inning with an RBI single from Melissa Barber (Nassau, N.Y.) to make the score 3-1. Centenary continued to tack on runs in the bottom of the 6th inning with a two RBI double from the hot bat of Justine Stefura.

Ashleigh Johnson, (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss for the Wildcats. The junior gave up three runs on four hits. Jordan Penoyer (Sherrill, N.Y.) would come in for a relief appearance. The freshman would give up four runs on five hits.

Centenary's Jessica Hewitt earned the win for the Cyclone's. The junior gave up one run on three hits and had six strikeouts.

GAME 2:

The Wildcats struck first in the second game with an RBI single to center field by Bailee Haddad (Frankfort, N.Y.) in the first. Taylor Hines (Mechanicville, N.Y.) would drive in two runs off a single to right field to give the Wildcats an early 3-0 lead. The Redhawks came back in the top of the 2nd bringing the score to 3-2. In the top of the 4th inning, the Redhawks continued their scoring, tacking on two more runs on an RBI single by Dayna Calloway. In the bottom of the 5th, the Wildcats took back the on a Bailey Wood (Preston Hollow, N.Y.) two RBI single.

NOTABLES:

  • Taylor Hines went 3-3 during game two and drove in 2 RBIs
  • Bailee Haddad went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored
  • Kayla Maiolo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) threw a complete game striking out two batters. The junior was stellar on the mound for the Wildcats

The Wildcats will play a pair of games on Tuesday. The 'Cats first game is scheduled for a 9:30 AM first pitch against Immaculata. Game two for the Wildcats is scheduled for 3:30 PM against Salem State.
