SB: Wildcats Earn First Two NEAC Wins of the Season Over Morrisville.

CLINTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly softball team saw their first NEAC action on Wednesday. The Wildcats squared off for a twin bill with Morrisville which was moved from SUNY Poly to Hamilton College. The Wildcats emerged with two wins over Morrisville. The score of the first game was 8-3 and the second was 10-6.

GAME 1

In game one the Wildcats took the lead in the bottom of the first on back to back doubles by Danielle Witchley (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Abigail Coyne (Niskayuna, N.Y.) that plated two runs. The Wildcats would keep the 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth when they expanded it to 6-0 when Witchley struck again, this time for a two run homerun. The Mustangs scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to make a run at a win, but came up short.  

Fallon Reinold (Holland Patent, N.Y.) earned the win in the game. She let up three hits in seven innings and struck out 12 batters. Reinold also went 2-3 at the plate and had two RBIs. Danielle Witchley finished the game 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Leah Segerlin (Webster, N.Y.) and Taylor Hines (Mechanicsville, N.Y.) each went 3-4 with a double in the game. Segerlin had an RBI and two runs scored. Hines scored three times.

GAME 2

Game two was more of a back and forth battle between the two teams. The Mustangs hung a four run inning on the board in the top of the second. The Wildcats would answer right back with a four run inning of their own thanks to a two run double by Fallon Reinold and a two run single by Taylor Hines. Morrisville would plate another run in the top of the third, but the Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, and sixth to secure the win.

Hannah Wasco (Rome, N.Y.) earned the win on the mound after six innings of work. She also went 2-4 at the plate and had two RBIs. Taylor Hines had a game high five RBIs. She went 3-3 with a double in the game. Leah Segerlin went 3-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Erika Charbonneau (Boonville, N.Y.) had two runs scored in the game. She went 2-3 with a walk.

With the two wins, the Wildcats now sit at 6-8 on the season and start out their NEAC play 2-0. The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday when they will travel to Keuka to take on the Wolfpack. The double header is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
