MARCY, N.Y. – Reportedly in response to New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter being on the disabled list for the beginning of baseball season, Mother Nature continues to visit her disappointment on baseball and softball seasons in the Northeast.
Said Nature in a prepared statement through her spokesperson, Mr. Phil of Punxsutawney, Pa:
"As many of you are aware, I am an avid snowboarder and consumer of winter sports. However, every spring I hang up my boots to watch the only thing more awe-inspiring than, well, me: Derek Jeter. This year, for the first time in several years, Derek is not in the starting lineup for the Yankees. Given this development, I figure I'll stay out on the slopes for a few more weeks."
As the latest team to be victimized by Derek Jeter's injury, SUNYIT announced today it is canceling the softball doubleheaders originally scheduled for today, 4/2, at Hamilton College, and tomorrow, 4/3, vs. SUNY Cobleskill. No make-up dates have yet been announced.
