CC: Wildcats Host 7th Annual Wildcat Classic Invitational.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's and women's cross country team hosted the 7th annual SUNY Poly Short Course Invitational on Saturday, September 21st. Nine teams competed in the race with 128 runners, including a large group of SUNY Poly Alumni, competing in either the 6K women's or 8K men's races.

 

WOMEN'S 6K

Clarkson University was the winner of the 6K race, finishing with 20 points, 18 ahead of second-place Utica College. Clarkson's top finisher, Kelsey Wenger finished second overall with a time of 23:45. Clarkson's ss top five runners finished second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth. The individual race winner was Utica's Kaitlyn Stinson who finished the 6K in 23:18.7. SUNY Poly only ran four runners, disqualifying them from placing as a team. The Wildcat's top finisher in the race was Lauren Phetteplace who finished the race in 8th place with a time of 24:47.3. The Wildcat Alumni team finished in 5th place with their top five finishers scoring 133 points. Rebecca LaPorte, Sarah Murphy, Caley Grasso, Kassidy Eng, and Lisa DelBianco were the five placing runners for the Wildcat Alumni.

MEN'S 6K

The men's race was also won by Clarkson with a team total of 32 points. Clarkson's Kevin Cronin was the race winner with a time of 26:43.5. Clarkson's top five finishers placed first, fifth, seventh, ninth, and tenth.  SUNY Poly's top finisher was Noah Valvo (Town of Wright, N.Y.) who came in third place in the race with a time of 27:29.3. The time was a personal record for the junior. The Wildcats placed third as a team with 51 points. Their top five placed third, sixth, eighth, fourteenth, and twentieth. The Wildcat Alumni team finished the race in fourth place with 121 points. Their top five runners included Greg Bogdan, Dakota Corney, Derek Smith, Ian Kurzrock, and Jesse Chain.

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will travel to Geneseo to compete in the Mike Woods Invitational. The women will compete in a 6K race. The men will race the 8K course. Last season the Wildcat women finished 14th and the men finished 11th at the Mike Woods Invite. The race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am at Letchworth State Park in Mt. Morris, New York.
