CC: Wildcats Host 13th Annual SUNY Poly Short Course Invitational.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's and women's cross country team hosted the 13th annual SUNY Poly Short Course Invitational on Saturday. 13 teams competed in the season-opening race with 227 runners competing in either the 4K women's or 6K men's races.

 

WOMEN'S 4K

SUNY ESF was the winning team in the women's 4K race with an overall score of 31 points. Their top finisher, Abby Perez finished second overall with a time of 17:16.5. ESF's top five runners finished second, third, fifth, tenth, and 11th. The race winner was Riley Poisson from William Smith. She finished the race 45 seconds before everyone else with a time of 16:31.3. The win was Poisson's second consecutive win at the Short Course Invitational. Last season she set the course record with a time of 16:25.3. SUNY Poly finished the race in 7th place with 198 points. Lauren Phetteplace (Cortland, N.Y.) was the Wildcats top finisher in 4th place overall. She had a time of 17:39.3.

MEN'S 6K

SUNY Oneonta was the winner of the men's 6K race. The Red Dragons placed their top five runners in fourth, fifth, sixth, ninth, and tenth place. Their top runner Blake Dellabough finished the race with a time of 20:11.1. The top overall runner in the race was Dillon Vandemortel from SUNY Cobleskill. He finished with a time of 19:19.2. SUNY Poly's top finisher was Noah Valvo (Town of Wright, N.Y.) who came in with a time of 20:12.5. He placed seventh overall.

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will travel to Cobleskill State to compete in the Stephen A. Warde Invitational. The women will compete in a 6K race. The men will race the 8K course. The meet will be a good warmup for the Wildcats who will run the Cobleskill Course again later this year at the NEAC Championships.
