MVB: Wildcats Clinch Third Seed in NEAC Championship Tournament With a 3-1 Win over Wells.

AURORA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats clinched a spot in the NEAC Championship Tournament on Thursday with a 3-1 win over Wells (25-22, 25-23, 8-25, 26-24). The win places SUNY Poly firmly in the third place position which will likely lead to a match-up with Penn State Altoona in the first round of the tournament which will be hosted by NEAC Regular Season Champions; Medaille College.

The Wildcats hit .163 as a team over the entire match with a total of 29 errors, but hit at a .323 clip in the three sets that they won while making just 16 errors. As a team the Wildcats had 52 kills, five service aces, 14 total blocks, and 45 digs. The Wells Express registered 44 kills, five service aces, 23 total blocks, and 38 digs.

Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y.) had a match high 15 kills on 39 attempts and had seven digs in four sets of work.

A.J. Davids (Hilton, N.Y.) added 14 kills to the mix. He hit .312 in the match on 32 attempts and had a service ace, five digs, and three total blocks.  

Sophomore setter Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) had a match high 42 assists in the match. He also amassed two kills, two service aces, four digs, and five total blocks in the match.

Freshman Brian Malsan (Slingerlands, N.Y.) had a career high 15 digs in the match. He surpassed his former career high dig total (against Kean on Jan. 23rd) by six. Malsan also had four assists in the match

The Express were led by the hitting trio of Brannon Perdicho, Liam Kaylor, and John Farruggia. Perdichio finished with 13 kills, nine digs, and three total blocks. Kaylor had 11 kills and two total blocks. Farrugia finished the match with 10 kills, two service aces, six digs, and three total blocks.

The Wildcats record improves to 18-10 (11-4 NEAC) with the win. The team will finish up their regular season with a single match against Keuka on Saturday, April 2nd at 2:00 PM at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field House.
