MARCY, N.Y. - The Wildcats played host to Cal Lutheran on Monday night at the Wildcat Field House. Despite going up 2-0 in the first two sets, the Wildcats were unable to seal the deal and dropped the next three sets to the Kingsmen. The final line score for the match was (25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 19-25, 12-15).

The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead after hitting .444 as a team in the first set. The offense came back to earth in the second set, but still managed to gain a 2-0 advantage. Cal Lutheran got the break that they needed when senior Dan O'Connor (Latham, N.Y.) went down with an ankle/shin injury. He tried to return, but the pain eventually forced him from the game. The Kingsmen squeaked out the third set win 25-23 despite being out hit by the Wildcats, but a change in momentum came at the right time and Cal Lutheran took charge of the next two sets; out hitting SUNY Poly down the stretch to get the come-from-behind win.

A.J. Davids (Hilton, N.Y.) had a great match for the Wildcats. He had a game high 20 kills on 51 attempts. He also had six digs and three total blocks.

Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led the match in two statistical categories. He had a match high 52 assists, and a match high 16 digs. With the 52 assists, Goggin became the first Wildcat to surpass 1,000 assists in a single season. The former record stood at 810 assists since the 2009 season.

The difference in the game was the blocking by Cal Lutheran. As a team the Kingsmen did a phenomenal job blocking at the net. They totaled 34 block assists and two solo blocks. Michael Campbell had nine total blocks in the match. Nick Shoemate and Nicholas Oertli each had seven total blocks. Justin Kam led the Kingsmen with 12 kills on 28 swings. Michael Campbell hit a team high .500 with 10 kills.

With the loss, the Wildcats overall record falls to 17-10. The Wildcats take to the road on Thursday to take on NEAC rival Wells College.  The match is set to begin at 7:00 PM. Live stats will be available for the game HERE.
