MVB: Wildcats Go 2-1 in Last NEAC Pool Play Event of the Season.

ALTOONA, PA. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats traveled to Altoona this past weekend to compete in their last NEAC pool play event of the season. The Wildcats went 2-1 in the three match set earning wins against Lancaster Bible and Wilson, but dropping a match to host Penn State Atoona.

In their first match the Wildcats handled Lancaster Bible in three sets (25-12, 27-25, 25-18). Nick Hagan (Hilton, N.Y.) had a great match. He had 10 kills on 11 attempts, amassing a match high .909 hitting percentage. Nick also had two total blocks in the match. Fellow Hilton High School graduate A.J. Davids (Hilton, N.Y.) led all players with 13 kills in the match on 22 attempts. Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills Mass.) had 40 assists, nine digs, and three kills in the match. Dan O'Connor (Latham, N.Y.) led all players with 15 digs.

The Wildcats fell to Penn State Altoona in their second match 3-0 (24-26, 18-25, 18-25). The Wildcats hit just .080 as a team compared to the .279 hitting percentage of the Nittany Lions. Nick Hagan led the Wildcats with nine kills in the match. He hit a team high .278 and had a block assist. Ryan Gloff (Brockport, N.Y.) and Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y.) had eight kills each. Dan O'Connor had a match high 13 digs and two assists from the libero position.

Game three saw the Wildcats defeat Wilson in three sets (25-14, 25-11, 25-23). Ryan Gloff led all players with eight kills in the match. He also had two service aces and a team high 11 digs. Nick Hagan and Max Szuba had seven kills each. Hagan hit a match high .500 on 12 attempts. Szuba hit .385 in the match and had two service aces and seven digs. The Wildcats hit .216 as a team.

The 2-1 conference weekend puts the Wildcats at 17-9 overall and 10-4 in the NEAC. The team currently sits comfortably in the third place spot in the NEAC. The team will be back in action on Monday night when they host Cal Lutheran in a non-conference matchup. The game can be seen live HERE.
