MVB: Wildcats Drop Two Non-Conference Matches to Rivier and Elmira.

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team traveled to Elmira on Saturday to take on Rivier and Elmira in two non-conference matches. The men did not fare well in their matchups; dropping both matches. The first match against Rivier went four sets (21-25, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25) and the second against Elmira went just three (23-15, 21-25, 19-25).

In the first match Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y. / Irondequoit HS) recorded a match high 16 kills, hitting .393 on 28 attempts. Max also had three digs and an assist in the match. A.J. Davids (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton HS) was right behind Max with 15 kills. He Hit .312 and had a service ace, a dig, and a block assist in the match. Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass. / Agawam HS) had a solid match. He recorded 41 assists, four kills on five attempts, four digs, one block solo, and one block assist.

In the second match, SUNY Poly ran into an Elmira team on a seven game winning streak. The Wildcats put up a fight in every set, but came up short all three times. A.J. Davids led the team with nine kills, but also had eight errors. This was the story of the match for the Wildcats who hit just .108 as a team. Brian Malsan (Slingerlands, N.Y. / Bethlehem HS) had a team high six digs in the match. Zach Goggin hit a team high .667 with five kills on six attempts. He had 24 assists in the match.

With the two losses, the Wildcats now sit at 11-6 on the season. The team will be back on the court on Tuesday when they will host NEAC rival Wells College. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start. Live stats and video will be available HERE.
