Wildcats Drop Two at Wells

AURORA, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team (4-3, 0-1 NEAC) lost two matches on the road Saturday evening. Their first match was at 4:00 pm where they took on the host Wells College (3-2, 1-0 NEAC). The second match of the day took place at 6:00 pm against Penn St.-Behrend (3-1).

When the Wildcats played Wells they dropped a 3-1 decision to the home team. SUNY Poly played the first two sets close at scores of 25-22 and 29-27 but weren't able to close out either one to fall behind 0-2. They were able to play a strong third set to a score of 25-16 to force a fourth. However, they weren't able to take advantage of the opportunity and lost another close game 25-22.

A.J. Davids (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton) led the way for SUNY Poly in kills with 12. Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass. / Agawam) led his teammates with 23 assists and Justin Rich (Hamburg, N.Y. / Eden) was the top player defensively with 19 digs

SUNY Poly lost their second match against Penn St.-Behrend with a final score of 3-0. They played to scores of 25-15, 25-22, and 25-19. Although the Wildcats played well defensively recording 32 digs, they struggled on offense against the Lions' strong blocking efforts.

Evan Smith (Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties) and Davids held the high in kills with 7 apiece Piotr Kasza (Mechowiec, Poland / Academy of American Studies) led the team in assists, 14 and digs, 7. Dan O'Connor (Latham, N.Y. / Shaker) matched Kasza's efforts with 7 digs of his own.

SUNY Poly will travel to Keuka next weekend to participate in three games on Friday and Saturday.
