Men's Volleyball Splits Two Matches in Day Two of SUNYIT Invitational, Meller Named to All-Tournament Team

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's volleyball team closed out its two-day tournament by splitting a pair of matches, falling to Stevenson University 3-1 (18-25, 18-25, 25-23, 11-25) before defeating Lasell College in a thrilling 3-2 contest (14-25, 26-24, 25-23, 22-25, 16-14).

Junior Ryan Meller (Eden, NY/Eden Central), who was selected to the All-Tournament Team, finished with 15 kills and 10 digs against Stevenson, while sophomore Jeff Coon (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and freshman Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) each had six kills.  Senior Jonathan Brochu (Latham, NY/Shaker) tallied 29 assists.

Meller then led SUNYIT to victory with 17 kills, six digs and two serve aces against Lasell.  Coon registered 10 kills, seven digs, six total blocks and a team-best four serve aces, Krowicki had 10 digs and nine kills and Brochu finished with 43 assists.

Stevenson won the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.  Stevenson freshman Austin Jacoby was named the tournament's most valuable player after registering a hit percentage of .395 and finishing with four-match totals of 71 kills, 23 digs, five total blocks, two assists and one serve ace.

The Wildcats will be back in action this Tuesday when they host Southern Vermont College at 7:00 pm.
