UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team beat Pitt-Bradford on Sunday afternoon 5-1. Edgar Gomez would net two goals for the Wildcats, including a highlight-reel bicycle kick to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Thomas Nimineh would add a goal and two assists. With the win, the Wildcats move to 1-1 on the season. The Panthers move to 0-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Wildcats would open the game with an incredible bicycle kick goal from Edgar Gomez in the 18th minute. Thomas Nimineh would set up Gomez with a beautiful cross for his first assist of the season. CLICK HERE to watch the highlight-reel goal!
In the 22nd minute, Jael Casimir would net his first-career goal at SUNY Poly to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. The Wildcats would continue to control the pace for the rest of the first half, continuing to put pressure on Pitt-Bradford. The Wildcats' back line did a great job minimizing attacks from the Panthers and turning the stops into offensive opportunities. SUNY Poly would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Wildcats would continue their offensive ways in the second half, scoring three goals to take home the 5-0 victory. Gomez would strike again in the 56th minute on an assist from Dominick Spychalski and Thomas Nimineh. It was Gomez's second goal of the game, who is tied for first on the team with two goals. Shortly after, Nimineh would record his third point of the game, this time scoring a goal in the 58th minute to give SUNY Poly a 4-0 lead. Abus Mohamed Ali would net SUNY Poly's final goal of the afternoon in the 76th minute, his first goal of the season. With the win, SUNY Poly moves to 1-1 on the season.
