MARCY, N.Y. - The Wildcats and the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College played a close match on the pitch Wednesday night. The first half saw some good scoring opportunities, but neither team found the back of the net. The Wildcats won the game with two back-to-back goals in the 53rd and 55th minutes. The win improves the Wildcat's season record to 3-1 this season. The Knights fall to 1-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Wildcat offense pressured the Knights in the first half but did not break through until early in the second half. In the 53rd minute, a perfectly placed through ball from Aboubacar Camara found Noah Fagnani with room in the box. Fagnani avoided the goalkeeper, who had charged to make a defensive stop, gathered, and drove a groundball with his right foot into an open net. The Wildcats would not wait long to score their second goal of the match.
In the 55th minute, another outstanding pass by Aboubacar Camara set up Edgar Gomez for his fourth goal of the season. The cross was facilitated by Abus Mohamed-Ali who sent Camara to the corner with a well-placed ball to the right edge of the box. Camara put one touch on the pass changed direction and found Edgar Gomez who had gained inside position on his man.
The Wildcat defensive unit played great in the game. Their approach was balanced and disciplined. They covered the passing lanes and did a great job limiting the scoring opportunities of Mt. St. Mary.
