MSOC: Golden Goal Gives Wildcats a Double Overtime Win at Alfred State.

ALFRED, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team won a double-overtime thriller 3-2 on the road at Alfred State. The SUNY Poly Wildcats got in a 2-0 hole early in the first half but came out of the locker room swinging in the second. The Wildcats scored twice to tie the game up to end regulation.. After a scoreless first overtime period, the Wildcats would score the golden goal to earnt the 3-2 victory at Alfred State. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Alfred State jumped out to an early lead on a goal in the third minute by Anthony Smith. Just a short while later, they struck again, this time on a goal by Chris Balys. That would end the scoring for the Pioneers, who were stifled by the Wildcat defense in the second half. The 'Cats would come roaring back in the second half with a quick goal by Kason Snyder (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) to put SUNY Poly on the board. With the pressure on and the clock running down, Richie Morris (Spanish Town, Jamaica) answered the prayers of Wildcat fans with a late game-tying goal in the 87th minute to force overtime. In the second overtime period, Morris would again play the part of hero, netting the game-winner in the 107th minute of an assist by Abdoulaye Toure (Dakar, Senegal)

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES 

  • Richie Morris led the charge for the Wildcats with a two-goal performance including the game-winner in 2OT and an assist. The five points bring Morris's career total to 17. The game-winner was his third as a Wildcat. 

  • Kason Snyder scored the first Wildcat goal of the night. It was the third of his career.

  • SUNY Poly Goalkeeper Nathan Laughlin (Cohoes, N.Y.) earned his first victory on the season making six saves in goal. 

  • Alfred State goalkeeper Nico Coria had a game-high seven saves.  



UP NEXT

The Wildcats look to continue their winning ways at home against North Eastern Athletic Conference rival Keuka College as apart of Alumni Weekend festivities. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start time at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field.
