Wildcats Fall to Division II Redhawks, 18-2

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Lacrosse Team (0-3, 0-0 NEAC) lost at home Tuesday night to the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College (2-2) by a score of 18-2. The Wildcats kept it close through the first period, but ultimately were no match for the Division II Redhawks.

The Redhawks struck first on a goal by Craig Petit and two scores by Dom Cianfarano, but the Wildcats answered back with a goal from Tyler Serva (Chenango Forks, N.Y. / Chenango Forks). Assisting on the play was junior midfielder Denver Babowicz (Marcy, N.Y. / Holland Patent).

Unfortunately for the home team, it was at that time that senior attack man Brett Capps decided to take the game over for the Redhawks. The six-foot Homer native scored his first goal with 1:08 remaining in the period, and continued to hammer the Wildcats the rest of the night in registering a game-high 5 goals.

Capps was outshone only by Cianfarano, who added two more goals and four more assists to his first period tally, giving the freshman an incredible 4 goal, 4 assist performance to lead all players in points.

Leading the Wildcats in groundballs was Tyler Serva with 6, while Brett Gifford (Cazenovia, N.Y. / Cazenovia) also had a strong game with 5.

The Wildcats will have just under 48 hours to recover before hosting Mitchell College this Thursday. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
