MBB: Wildcats Win Big Over NVU-Johnson on Senior Night.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball celebrated senior night on Friday with a 17-point win over North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe NVU-Johnson. The Wildcats never trailed in the game and had four players score 15 points or more in what was their eighth win in conference play. The Wildcats lone senior, Josh Gregory, was honored before the game with a short ceremony to celebrate his career accomplishments. The win improves SUNY Poly's record to 13-7 this season with an 8-1 record in the NAC. 

 

The Wildcats dominated the paint, scoring 20 more points (44-24) and pulling down more rebounds (37-33) than the Badgers. The Wildcats also shot better from the field (47.8% - 43.6%), had fewer turnovers (8-14), and capitalized on second-chance points (16). The Wildcat's largest lead was halfway through the second half when a Cheickne Toure jumper gave SUNY Poly a 22 point lead.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • Senior Josh Gregory scored a game-high 26 points in the game. He knocked down three 3-pointers, had seven rebounds, three assists, and a block. 

  • Mitch Kernizan scored 19 points, had five rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block. He shot 70% from the field. 

  • Jesse O'Dell scored 18 points, had a team-high eight rebounds, and dished out four assists. 

  • LJ Randle scored 15 points in the game for the 'Cats. He hit two of three 3-pointers, hit all three of his free throws, and shot 71% from the field. Randle also had six rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals. 

  • Yeskin Walker-Williams scored a team-high 21 points for the Badgers. He also had eight rebounds and four assists. 

  • Brian Lee scored 18 for NVU-Johnson what three rebounds. 

  • Malik Moore scored 15 for Johnson with eight rebounds two steals, a block, and an assist

The Wildcats will host SUNY Canton in NAC play on Saturday, January 29th at the Campus Center Gym. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM tip-off. The game will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN).
