MBB: Gregory Scores Career-High 41 in Wildcat Win Over Fredonia.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team defeated Fredonia on Saturday 82-69 to advance to the championship game of the Harold J. Brodie Tournament at RIT. The Wildcats were led by an outstanding performance by senior Josh Gregory who scored a career-high 41 points in the game. SUNY Poly improved to 3-2 this season with the win. They will play Pitt.-Bradford on Sunday in the tournament's championship game.  

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The game was truly a game of two halves. The Wildcats struggled to get going in the first half, shooting poorly, ultimately getting behind by 18 points in the first 16 minutes of the game. SUNY Poly showed great determination and fight in the second half to not only get themselves back in the game but to build a 13 point lead down the stretch. 

 

The Wildcats shot 0-7 in the first half from 3-point range but went 5-8 in the second half. The same trend was true in their field goal percentage, which shot up 30% from the first to the second half. Josh Gregory, who scored a career-high 41 points in the game, scored 32 of his points in the second half and knocked down four 3-pointers. 

 

The Wildcat defense was also a factor in the victory, forcing nine turnovers on five steals and recording four blocks in the second half. The 'Cats held the Blue Devils to 30.3% shooting in the second half. 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • Josh Gregory scored a career-high 41 points in 38 minutes played. He also had six rebounds, three assists, a game-high six steals, and two blocks. 

  • Mitch Kernizan scored 13 points and had six rebounds. He also dished out three assists in the win. 

  • Jesse O'Dell also scored 13 points for the 'Cats. He also had five rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal. 

  • Jackson Brown scored a team-high 21 points for the Blue Devils with four rebounds and two assists. 

  • Jacob Hougan had 13 points, four rebounds, and an assist for Fredonia.

  • Dydy Bryan had a game-high 10 rebounds, two assists, three steals, and nine points for Fredonia. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will take on the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers in the Championship game of the Harold J. Brodie Tournament. The Panthers defeated host RIT on Saturday 105-101 to advance to the Championship game. The Wildcats and Panthers are scheduled to tip-off at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 28th.
