MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team lost to Morrisville on Wednesday by just three points. The loss splits the season series between the Wildcats and Mustangs. The final score of the game was 72-69. SUNY Poly, Cobleskill, and Morrisville are all 5-2 in division play. The win gives the Mustangs the tiebreaker for first place in the division.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was a tightly contested contest for the division lead. The lead changed hands 18 times and saw 12 ties. The Wildcats nearly tied up the game at the end of regulation, but a decent look by Josh Gregory (Whitesboro, N.Y.) rimmed out, ending the game. The Wildcats held the edge in field goal percentage where they held a 50%-47% advantage, but an eight-point advantage from the charity stripe shifted the odds in the Mustang's favor. Turnovers were also an issue for the Wildcats. The Mustangs held a +7 turnover advantage.

NOTES:

• Josh Gregory nearly had a double-double in the game with 20 points and eight rebounds. He also had a pair of assists, aa block, and a steal.
• Jesse O'Dell (Rotterdam, N.Y.) had 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists. He also had a block and a steal.
• Caleb Canty (Hudson, N.Y.) scored 12 points and had a pair of assists.
• Jake Kulakowski (Brewerton, N.Y.) had 10 points in 21 minutes off the bench.
• Kevin Dennis had a double-double for the Mustangs. The senior scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds; both a game-high. Dennis also had a game-high 4 blocks.
• Ishmael Chisholm had 14 points and four assists. He also recorded two steals and a block.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will host the Cobleskill Fighting Tigers on Saturday, February 8th at 1:00 PM. The game is the second match-up between the teams this season. Cobleskill won the last matchup 89-81 on January 22nd.
