MBB: Wildcats Earn North Division Win Over Morrisville at Home.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team earned an important NEAC North Division win over Morrisville State on Saturday 83-71. The Wildcats held the lead for the entire 40-minute game growing their lead slowly until the final buzzer. The key differences in the game were three-point shooting percentage, free throw percentage, and assists. The Wildcats held a solid edge in all three categories. Five Wildcats had double-digit scoring totals in the game.

 

NOTABLES:

  • The Wildcats held the advantage in three key statistics; Three-point shooting percentage (41.7% to 27.3%), free throw percentage (82.4% to 64.3%), and team assists (20 to 12).
  •  Josh Gregory (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had a team-high 21 points. He knocked down a pair of three-pointers and shot 50% from the field. Gregory also had four rebounds and two assists in the game.
  • Jesse O'Dell (Rotterdam, N.Y.) had a solid game in the middle for the Wildcats. He had great touch in the paint, scoring 14 points on six of ten from the field. He also had two rebounds and a steal for the 'Cats.
  • Caleb Canty (Hudson, N.Y.) had 13 points and a game-high seven assists for the Wildcats. The seven assists were a career-high for the junior transfer.
  • LJ Randle (Rotterdam, N.Y.) and Tyshaun Copper (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the Wildcats double-digit scorers. Randle had 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Copper had 10 points, a rebound, and an assist. Copper was a perfect four for four from the field.
  • Kievonn Banks (Rochester, N.Y.) had a game-high 13 rebounds for the Wildcats. He also scored seven points, had five assists, and three steals.
  • Kevin Dennis was the games leading scorer. He finished with a 24 point 12 rebound double-double for Morrisville.
  • Ishmael Chisholm had 15 points, a rebound and an assist for the Mustangs.
  • Jaylin Montalvo scored 11 points in 28 minutes off the bench for Morrisville.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will hit the road for another NEAC North Division matchup with the Cobleskill Fighting Tigers on Wednesday, January 22nd. The Fighting Tigers are 10-3 this season with a 4-1 NEAC record. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM tip-off.
