MBB: Wildcats Advance to NEAC Final Four With Quarterfinal Win Over Cobleskill.

Marcy, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team took care of business on Tuesday night, earning a convincing 21 point win over Cobleskill in the NEAC Quarterfinal. The Wildcats worked their way to a narrow lead at the half, but caught fire in the second half extending their lead thanks to some solid shooting and tenacious defense.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Wildcats were led by the typical cast of players. Josh Gregory (Whitesboro, N.Y.) scored in bulk, droping a game high 23 points in the win. He had his 13th double-double, recording a season high 18 rebounds in the game. Redell Freeman (Rochester, N.Y.) was just an assist shy of a double-double, dishing out nine assists and scoring 19 points. The Wildcats grew their lead to a high point of 23 points late in the second half. The Wildcats closed out the last 13 minutes of the game with a 33-16 run to punch their ticket to the NEAC Final Four.

NOTABLES:

  • The Wildcats had three players with double digit scoring totals. Josh Gregory had 23, Redell Freeman had 19, and Tyshaun Copper (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 10.
  • Jake Kulakowski (Brewerton, N.Y.) scored eight points in the win, including the highlight play of the game. The junior slammed home a beautiful alley-oop pass from Redell Freeman midway through the first half.
  • Peyton Griffiths (Milford, N.Y.) picked an opportune time to record a season high 11 rebounds. The senior scored four points and two assists to go with his 11 boards.
  • Josh Gregory had his fingerprints all over the game. The sophomore had a game high three blocks, a game hig 18 rebounds, and a game high 23 points.
  • Daniel Owens and Dashown Nelson each scored 12 points for Cobleskill. Owens had eight rebounds and two steals. Nelson had five rebounds and two blocks.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will hit the road for the NEAC Final Four, hosted by Morrisville State. The Wildcats were announced as the #3 seed in the tournament, meaning that they will match up with the #2 seeded Lancaster Bible Chargers in the semi-final round. The Wildcats will take on the Chargers at Morrisville State at 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 23rd. The winner will advance to the NEAC Championship Game on Sunday.
