MBB: A Pair of Double-Double Performances Lead SUNY Poly to a 81-59 Win over Cobleskill.

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team traveled to Cobleskill on Saturday in search of their seventh NEAC win of the season. The Wildcats would prevail in the matchup thanks to a big second half were they outscored the Fighting Tigers 46-27 to secure the win. The final score of the game was 81-59.

The Wildcats got yet another big night from Quayshaun Mitchell (Harlem, N.Y. / HS of Graphics Communication Arts) who continues to have the hot hand after his NEAC Player of the Week performance last week. Mitchell dropped 28 points shooting 67% from the floor. He added to his scoring effort by grabbing 10 rebounds to record his team best third double-double of the season. Mitchell also recorded two assists, a steal, and a block in the game.

Malik Johnson (Highland Falls, N.Y. / James I. O'Neil HS) played well on both sides of the ball for the Wildcats. He had 12 points on 5-9 from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of his young career. Johnson, who is known for being a strong defender, lived up to his reputation. He snatched a game high four steals and recorded a block. He also passed for four assists to round out what was his best all-around game of the season.

The leading men for Cobleskill were Frank D'Esti, who had a team high 13 points, and Ralph Erickson who provided a spark off the bench with 10 points. D'Esti also had an assist and two steals in the game. Erickson grabbed three rebounds, had an assist, and a steal.

The Wildcats improve their season record to 8-9 (7-2 NEAC) with the win. They will have a few days to prepare for Morrisville State who they will host on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM at SUNY Poly's Campus Center Gym. Live Stats will be available for the game HERE.
