SUNYIT Dishes Their Way Past NEAC Foe Cazenovia.

MARCY N.Y. – The SUNYIT men's basketball team played their fifth NEAC conference game of the season on Wednesday against the visiting Cazenovia Wildcats.  The game was tight through the first ten minutes, but the SUNYIT Wildcats put together a big run in the last 10 minutes of the first half to give them a big lead that they were able to hold on too. The final score was SUNYIT 89, Cazenovia 72.

 

The Cazenovia Wildcats played tight to start the game, scoring back and forth with the Wildcats of SUNYIT, but in the last ten minutes of the first half, SUNYIT capitalized on the opportunities presented and went on a 31-16 run to cap off the half. SUNYIT got some great offensive play from junior Desmian Greer (Washington Heights, NY / Chesire Acadamy) who had 18 points in the first half. Greer finished the game with a game high 25 points to go along with his 3 steals and 3 assists.

 

Cazenovia was led by senior Anthony Wilkerson who had a team high 17 points, a team high 4 assists, 5 rebounds, and a block on the day. Anthony was perfect from the charity stripe, going 7-7.     

 

The SUNYIT Wildcats bested Cazenovia in every statistical category. SUNYIT shot 50% from the field, 45% from 3-point range, had 34 rebounds to Cazenovia's 28, and had 19 assists to Cazenovia's 13. The dominate performance was largely in part to great ball movement by the SUNYIT Wildcats who had a season high 19 assists as a team. The junior duo of Ryan James (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs) and Alex Drake (Lansingville, NY / Lansingburgh) each had 6 assists on the day. James also had 17 points to go along with his assists and Drake had 13 points and 2 steals respectively.

 

The win by SUNYIT brings their record to (4-11, 2-3 NEAC) and drops Cazenovia to (4-9, 1-4 NEAC). SUNYIT will continue their home-stand with a conference game against Lancaster Bible on Monday January 21st at 2:00 pm in the SUNYIT Campus Center Gym.
