MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly baseball won game three of their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) series with Cazenovia on Tuesday 14-8. The game was an important one for the Wildcats who are currently tied for sixth place with Penn College in the NEAC standings. The game was a high scoring affair. Cazenovia took an early 1-0 lead in the second, but the Wildcats would take back the lead in the bottom half go the inning. The Wildcats scored in bunches, plating multiple runs in the second, the fourth, the fifth, the sixth, and the seventh innings of the game. The Wildcats are now 8-20 this season with a 5-6 record in NEAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Cazenovia struck first in the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second inning that drove home Zach Alpern. Poly would answer with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Sebastian Pannuto (New Paltz, N.Y.) drove in the Wildcats first run on an RBI single up the middle. Dean Natalizio (Greenville, N.Y.) would tack on two more for the Wildcats on a two-RBI single that drove in Pannuto and Michael Losco (North Babylon, N.Y.).

Cazenovia tied the game in the top of the third on a Dan Freese RBI double and a Zach Alpern RBI single. The game would remain tied until the bottom of the fourth. The 'Cats would take a five-run lead in the fourth and fifth innings. Bradley Dietz (Phoenix, N.Y.) plated a run on a bunt single and Noah Vanderbeck (Saugerties, N.Y.) had an RBI single in the fourth. In the fifth, Dietz had another RBI bunt and Jake Montrose (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had an RBI fielders choice. Montrose would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.

Cazenovia would not go quietly. They scored four runs in the top of the sixth to bring the game within one run. However, SUNY Poly would keep scoring, adding two in the sixth and two in the seventh to earn the win.

NOTABLES:

• The Wildcats had 21 hits in the game. Eight Wildcats had multiple hits in the game and three Wildcats had multiple RBIs.

• Jake LaFerrier (Troy, N.Y.) was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats. He threw six innings, allowed nine hits, seven runs, and struck out eight batters. He is now 2-3 this season.

• Bradley Dietz had a team-high four RBIs in the game. The junior went 3-3 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored.

• Seth Vanderbeck (Saugerties, N.Y.) went 4-6 in the game with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

• Dean Natalizio had three hits for the Wildcats with a double and two RBIs.

• Michael Cough (Utica, N.Y.) had three hits in the game and drove in a run.

• Michael Losco, Noah Vanderbeck, Jake Montrose, and Sebastian Pannuto all had multiple hits in the win.

• Cazenovia's Dan Freese had a big game. He drove in a game-high five RBIs with two doubles, a sacrifice fly, and a home run.

• Kamm Cassidy was the losing pitcher for Caz. He threw 4 ⅓ innings, allowed seven runs and walked a batter.

• Bobby Antonucci and Zach Alpern were the only other batters for Cazenovia with multiple hits. They had three hits each.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will travel to Oneonta on Thursday to take on the Red Dragons in a non-conference game. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM first pitch. Oneonta is 16-17 this season.
