CC: SUNY Poly Hosts 14th Annual Short Course Invitational.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly cross country teams hosted the 14th Annual Short Course Invitational on Saturday. Nine men's teams and eight women's teams competed in the first meet at SUNY Poly since 2019. Cobleskill won the men's race, placing all five of their scoring runners in the top 15 and claiming the top three podium positions. William Smith won the women's race with a score of 45, also placing all five scoring runners in the top 15. SUNY Poly placed fifth in the men's race and did not place in the women's race, as only three Wildcat women competed. 

 

Cobleskill dominated the men's race with a score of 24. Eamonn Sulivan, Dillon Vandemortel, and Nick Logan placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively for the Tigers. Devon McClendon was SUNY Poly's top scorer at 20th place (21:51.2). The Wildcats scored 125 points with runners finishing 20th, 22nd, 24th, 25th, and 34th.

 

In the women's race, William Smith and Oneonta ran a tight race with William Smith scoring 45 points to Oneontas 51 to take the top spot. Oneonta's Megan Francoeur won the race with a time of 17:23. William Smith had finishers at 5, 6, 10, 11, and 13 to earn the win. Lauren Phetteplace ran a solid race, finishing 6th with a time of 18:04.5. Ruchika Kilaparty placed 29th in her first race of the season. Katherine Candels finished 33rd.

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will head to Waterville, Maine on September 11th for the Thomas College Invitational. The races are scheduled to start at 11:00 AM. The race is a perfect tune-up for the Wildcats as Thomas College will host the NAC Championship race on October 30th.
