WCC: Women’s Cross Country Finishes Fifth at NEAC Championship.

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's cross country team finished fifth in the North Eastern Athletic Conference's 2019 Championship Race. The race was hosted by SUNY Cobleskill who ultimately captured first place in the race, earning the NEAC Championship Trophy. The Wildcats had a solid showing in the race, leading to two Wildcats being named to All-Conference Teams.

 

THE RACE:

The Wildcats placed fifth in the NEAC Championship with a team points total of 142. Their top five finished the race in 3rd, 14th, 36th, 41st, and 48th. The NEAC Champion Fighting Tigers had 26 points as a team. Their top runner finished in 2nd place. The overall race winner was Michelle Kiss from Penn State Berks. She finished 10 seconds ahead of the second-place runner with a time of 24:44.2 earning the NEAC Runner of the Year Award.

 

ALL-CONFERENCE AWARDS:

SUNY Poly's Lauren Phetteplace (Cortland, N.Y.) finished the NEAC Championship race in third place with a time of 25:25.9 leading to a place on the NEAC's All-Conference First Team for the second time in her two year career. Katherine Candels (Tolland, Conn.) was also named to an All-Conference Team after placing 15th overall with a time of 27:39.6. She was named to the NEAC Third Team.

The Wildcats will compete in the NCAA DIII Atlantic Regional on Saturday, November 16th at St. Lawrence University in Canton N.Y.
