WCC: Wildcats Win First NEAC Women’s Cross Country Championship in Program History.

LANCASTER, PA. - The SUNY Poly women's cross country team is the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Champions for the first time in the history of the program. The Wildcats ran a fantastic race at Lancaster Bible on Saturday to take home the Championship.

 

The Wildcats finished with 60 team points to finish 15 points higher than second place finisher Cazenovia. Lauren Phetteplace won the race with a time of 24:10.6 to take home both the NEAC Runner of the Year Award, which is awarded to the first place finisher of the race, and the NEAC Rookie of the Year Award, which is awarded to the highest placing rookie in the race. Head Coach Bill Tylutki took home the NEAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year Award. While the award is certainly not Coach Tylutki's first Coach of the Year Award, it is his first with the women's cross country team.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Despite tough running conditions, the Wildcats top five finishers came in 1st, 5th, 12th, 15th, and 27th to score 60 points.
  • Lauren Phetteplace finished first, followed by Jalize Mejia-Perez who came in 5th, finishing almost exactly one minute behind the leader.
  • Kassidy Eng, Molly Burdick, and Emma Cassidy rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats finishing 12th, 15th, and 27th respectively.
  • Cazenovia College came in second place with a team score of 85 points. Their top runner finished 4th overall.

The SUNY Poly Wildcats will compete in the NCAA Division III Regional race hosted by Rowan University on Saturday, November 10th at 11:00am.
