CC: Crain Leads the Wildcats to a Second Place Finish at the SUNY Poly Long Course Invitational.

MARCY, N.Y. - The men's and women's cross country teams hosted their second SUNY Poly Invitational of the season on Saturday, this time for the long course. The men competed in an 8K and the women competed in a 5K. The men's team placed 2nd behind SUNY ESF and the women did not place due to a shortage of runners. Both teams boasted some great individual times, and the men's course record was broken by a local runner from MVCC.

For the men, Oliver Crain (Syracuse, N.Y. / Corcoran H.S.) finished in 28:21 putting him in 7th place overall. John Hohl (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder H.S.) finished in 8th place with a time of 28:42. Joseph Acey (Forestport, N.Y. / Adirondack H.S.) finished with a time of 28:50, for a 9th place finish, and Derek Smith (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Arcadia H.S.) finished in 10th with a time of 28:54. The men finished in 2nd place overall with 52 points.

The men's race was won by SUNY ESF placing runners at 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 to total 20 points

Zakaria Djouma from MVCC set the long course record with a time of 26:12. He beat the prior record set by SUNY Poly's Derek Struck in 2013. Djouma now holds both the short course and long course records.

The women were led individually by Angela Szeglin (Sayville, N.Y. / Sayville HS) who placed 38th with a time of 24:42. Caley Grasso (Rensselaer, N.Y. / Columbia HS) finished with a time of 25:53 putting her in 49th place.
