WVB: Wildcats Celebrate Senior Day Before a Tri-Match With Eastern Nazarene and SUNY Cobleskill.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's volleyball team celebrated their annual senior day on Saturday afternoon prior to a NAC Tri-match with Eastern Nazarene and SUNY Cobleskill. The Wildcats lost both matches 3-0. Prior to the first match, the Wildcats held a short ceremony to honor the two seniors from this year's team; Ryan Fitzgerald and Kierra Connor 

 

MATCH #1:  

Eastern Nazarene – 3 

SUNY Poly – 0 

[25-13, 25-9, 25-17] 

 

SUNY Poly's women's volleyball team faced a formidable Eastern Nazarene squad in the first match of the afternoon. ENC earned a 3-0 victory in a North Atlantic Conference matchup. The Wildcats fell to a 2-17 overall record and 0-4 in conference play. 

 

The Eastern Nazarene offense was led by Peyton Chestnut, who recorded nine kills. Shantte Siliezar also contributed significantly, adding nine kills of her own. Telma Zelaya and Allison Deaton combined for 12 digs. Morgan Bruner and Eliana Baran impressed with four and five kills, respectively. 

 

SUNY Poly, despite the loss, saw strong performances from Brennah Durfee and Ryan Fitzgerald, who contributed eight and four kills, respectively. Samantha Dee recorded two kills and two aces. Grace Southwick had 12 assists, and Meghan Peek led the team with 12 digs. Kierra Connor added one block solo during the contest. 

 

MATCH #2:  

SUNY Cobleskill – 3 

SUNY Poly – 0 

[25-21, 25-18, 25-21] 

 

SUNY Poly's women's volleyball team faced SUNY Cobleskill in their second match of the afternoon. The Wildcats were unable to secure a victory ultimately losing 3-0. The team's record dropped to 2-18 overall and 0-5 in conference play. 

 

Alexis Miranda led the charge for the Wildcats with an impressive 21 kills. Baylee Kirschberg tallied 11 assists, while Kasey Orlowski added 15. Lydia McDonough made a significant impact with 24 digs, and Emma Hinze showcased her versatility with eight kills. 

 

SUNY Poly fought hard but faced challenges in scoring. Brennah Durfee led the team with eight kills and 14 digs. Ryan Fitzgerald had five kills an ace, and seven digs. Grace Southwick had 19 assists, and Samantha Dee contributed four kills and two aces. Meghan Peek was a dig leader with 15 total digs. 

 

UP NEXT:  

The Wildcats will take on the SUNY Canton Kangaroos on Wednesday, October 18th on the road. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start in Canton, N.Y.
