WVB: Women’s Volleyball Goes 1-3 in Season Opening Tournament at Morrisville.

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Women's Volleyball team traveled to Morrisville State for four non-conference matches this weekend. On Friday, the Wildcats opened the season with a match against Buffalo State, followed by a match against Oswego State. The Wildcats then took on Penn St.-Behrend and MIT on Saturday.

 

MATCH 1:

The Wildcats got off to a hot start in their first match of the season, defeating Buffalo State in four sets; 25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19. Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) led all players with 16 kills along with 6 service aces and 6 digs. Hayley Lawter (Whitesboro, N.Y.) also reached double figures with 10 kills. Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) added 44 assists, 6 service aces, and 7 digs in the winning effort.

 

MATCH 2:

In the second match of the day, the Wildcats lost to Oswego State in three sets; 25-15, 25-17, 25-12. The Lakers were led by Allison Sullivan and her 11 kills. Karlie King led the Wildcats with 6 kills and 11 digs. Sydney Johnson added 15 assists and 11 digs.

 

MATCH 3:

The Wildcats struggles continued on Day 2, losing to Penn St.-Behrend; 25-15, 25-15, 25-23. Sydney Johnson led the way for the Wildcats with 29 assists, 13 digs, 2 service aces, and 2 kills. Penn St.-Behrend was led by Amanda Henry's 7 kills, 11 digs, and 3 service aces.

 

MATCH 4:

In the final match of the tournament, the Wildcats fell to MIT in four sets; 18-25, 25-23, 18-25, 9-25. Abby Bertics led the charge for MIT, recording 15 kills, 7 digs, and 3 service aces. Christina Liao also had 36 assists and 8 digs for the Engineers of MIT. Hayley Lawter led the Wildcats in kills with 7, and Sydney Johnson had 19 assists, 6 service aces, and 4 kills. Amanda Batten (Penfield, N.Y.) also added 16 digs.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will return to the court on Friday November 7th against St. John Fisher in the University of Rochester Invitational. The game is scheduled for a 7:00pm start.
