WVB: Wildcats Take Down Local Rival Utica College in Three Sets; 25-19, 25-20, 25-14.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats beat local rival Utica College on Wednesday night 3-0 [25-19, 25-20, 25-14]. The Wildcats out played the Pioneers on all fronts hitting nearly .200 as a team and holding a 15-1 margin on service aces. The only advantage for Utica was in the middle where the Pioneers registered four total blocks to the Wildcats two.

The Wildcats were led by Ryenn Smith (Lyons, N.Y.) who had a match high nine kills on 28 attempts. She also had eight digs in the match.

Sophomore setter Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, W.A.) had a solid match. She had 25 assists and 10 digs. She now has 126 assists on the year.

The senior duo of Emma Larson (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Melissa Krak (Canastota, N.Y.) continued their solid play this year. They each had eight kills and two service aces in the match. Larson had eight digs and Krak had four.

The Pioneers were led by Brandi Blaszak who had a team high eight kills in the match on 25 attempts. Nicole Herringshaw added seven kills and two solo blocks for the Pioneers.

The Wildcats are now 3-1 on the year. The team will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Rochester for the University of Rochester Invitational that will take place on Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats will square off with the tournament host University of Rochester on Friday night at 8:00 PM.
