Wildcats Battle to Four-Set Loss at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. – The SUNY Polytechnic Women's Volleyball Team (8-9) rebounded from two sets down to take the third set, but ultimately fell to the Continentals of Hamilton College on Wednesday night, 3-1.

Hamilton hit at clips of .231 and .382 en route to relatively comfortable wins in the first two sets (25-17, 25-17). But the Wildcats turned things around in the third set, holding the Continentals to an .083 hitting percentage and taking the set in convincing fashion, 25-21.

Hamilton righted the ship in the fourth, winning 25-17 to take the match.

Jessica Weston led all players with 15 kills for the Continentals. She was one of three players for the home team registering double-digit kills.

For the Wildcats it was Emma Larson (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) leading the way. The sophomore recorded 11 kills on 35 attempts. Following her was rookie Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen) with 10 kills on 22 attempts and a team-high .409 hitting percentage.

Erika Reakes (Brewerton, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore) had 16 digs to go along with 2 service aces. Those two aces came on back-to-back points in the fourth set (which SUNY Poly eventually won) and helped the Wildcats go up 11-6 at the time.

Blocking was clearly a factor in the match, as the Continentals recorded 12 assisted blocks and 1 solo block, while the Wildcats managed just 1 solo block as a team.

SUNY Poly will now prepare for their first home matches of the year at this weekend's Wildcat Weekend Invitational. The team's first match is scheduled for 5:00 pm this Friday, as they take on Alfred State.
