Megan Will and Erika Reakes Sweep NEAC Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – SUNY Poly Women's Volleyball players Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen) and Erika Reakes (Brewerton, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore) swept the NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week Awards on Monday. Reakes won her second straight Defensive Player of the Week Award, while the rookie Will received her first award of the year as the Offensive Player of the Week.

Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y.) has been chosen as theNEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week after an outstanding all-around week for the SUNY Institute of Technology Wildcats. The freshman middle hitter did it all for the Wildcats across five matches last week, tallying 61 kills behind a .375 hitting percentage while adding 20 total blocks, 14 digs, 10 aces and four assists to help SUNYIT claim wins in three of those five contests.  Those wins came during the SUNY Purchase Invitational this past weekend, starting with a 3-2 win over Rutgers-Newark Saturday where Will had match highs of 16 digs, two solo blocks and four block assists.  She then closed the day with 14 kills and no errors on 17 attempts for an .824 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep over the host Panthers, where she again posted four block assists along with a solo swat.   In a 3-2 win over Farmingdale State Sunday, she led the Wildcats with four aces and three block assists while smashing 10 kills and dishing out three assists.  Will is currently the NEAC leader in hitting percentage (.336), block assists (29) and total blocks (40), while being second in total points (135.5).

Erika Reakes (Brewerton, N.Y.) has been selected as theNEAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight time after another excellent week for the SUNY Institute of Technology Wildcats.  Reakes helped the Wildcats to three victories last week after totaling 97 digs across five matches while adding 12 assists and five serve aces.  Reakes compiled double-digit dig totals in all five matches on the week, including a team-best 28 digs during a 3-2 win over Rutgers-Newark Saturday to kick off play at the two-day SUNY Purchase Invitational.  She followed that up with a team-best 13 digs to help SUNYIT sweep the host Panthers 3-0 later that day before again leading all players in digs with 15 in a 3-2 win over Farmingdale State Sunday, where she also contributed three assists and two aces. Reakes is now second in the NEAC in both total digs (191) and digs per set (4.44).
