Women’s Volleyball Swept by Utica on the Road

UTICA, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Volleyball Team (2-5) was swept by the Pioneers of Utica College (3-4) on Wednesday evening, 3-0. The sweep belied a tight match, however, with each set decided by just two points.

SUNYIT took Utica to extra points in each of the first two sets, losing 26-24 and 27-25 before falling in the 3rd and final set, 25-23.

Freshman Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen) led SUNYIT in kills with 12, and also had the highest hitting percentage on the team with a mark of .435.

Emma Larson (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) was next with 10 kills, and Morgan Eberley (Utica, N.Y. / Whitesboro) was third with 8 kills. Eberley and Larson both also finished with 15 digs.

Team libero and last week's NEAC Defensive Player of the Week Erika Reakes (Brewerton, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore) led all Wildcats with 23 digs.

While the margin between the two teams was thin, the Pioneers were no doubt helped by their blocking. The home team recorded 10 total blocks to SUNYIT's three. The Pioneers also out hit the Wildcats, .232 to .091.

SUNYIT will stay on the road this weekend as they travel to the SUNY Purchase Invitational. The team's first match is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 pm against Rutgers-Newark.
