Wildcats Continue to Fill Up NEAC Athlete-of-the-Week Rolls as Werenczak and Jackowski Take Home Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – SUNYIT continued to be well represented on the NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week roster, as women's soccer goalie Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, N.Y. / Mohawk) and women's volleyball setter Taviot Jackowski (LaFayette, N.Y. / LaFayette) were selected on Monday.

Werenczak was named the NEAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after a tremendous week in goal. The senior goalie posted two shutouts with 16 saves to guide the Wildcats to a pair of conference victories last week.  Werenczak stopped 10 shots to preserve a 1-0 win over Cazenovia College last Wednesday before registering a six-save shutout in a 7-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill Saturday.  Werencezk now has 82 saves on the year, which is currently fifth-most in the conference.  The Wildcats improved to 3-4 in the NEAC behind the two victories.

Jackowski, a senior setter for the Wildcats, helped lead her squad to another perfect 5-0 week, including four NEAC wins during divisional pool play last weekend. A team co-captain, Jackowski notched 146 assists (10.43 a/set) to go along with 35 digs (2.50 d/set), three assisted blocks and a hitting percentage of .438 (9-2-16).  The Wildcat setter posted at least 20 assists in all five wins and had three matches with at least 30 assists, with those totals helping SUNYIT claim five straight 3-0 sweeps on the week.  Her best game of the week came in a 3-0 win over Keuka College Sunday, where she posted 32 assists and 13 digs to help hand the Storm their first conference loss of the year and keep the Wildcats a perfect 8-0 in the NEAC.  The five straight victories on the week now gives SUNYIT (23-1 overall) 23 straight wins dating back to August.
