18-in-a-row: Women’s Volleyball Keeps Rolling at Wildcat Classic

MARCY, N.Y. – After losing their first match of the year back on August 30th, the SUNYIT Women's Volleyball Team (18-1, 4-0 NEAC) ensured that they would go undefeated for the month of September by finishing up a sweep of their own Wildcat Classic on Saturday.

Even sweeter, SUNYIT completed their 4-0 weekend with a win over the very team that defeated them back on August 30th: SUNY Canton.

After beating D'Youville and York on the first day of the tournament in straight sets, SUNYIT faced a pair of tough tests in Alfred State and SUNY Canton on Saturday.

In their first match, the Wildcats pulled out a 3-1 win over Alfred State. All four sets were close, with SUNYIT prevailing 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19.

Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore) led the Wildcats in both categories with 14 kills and 19 digs, while transfer-student Morgan Eberley (Utica, N.Y. / Whitesboro) added 7 kills on 18 attempts.

In Saturday's marquee matchup, the Wildcats traded sets before kicking it into high gear in the third and fourth set. SUNYIT exploded for a 25-16 win in the third set, and followed it up with a 25-13 win to take the match.

Eberley again was huge for the Wildcats, dominating the middle with 10 kills on 19 attempts and only 3 errors, good for a team-high .368 hitting percentage.

Wildcat setter Taviot Jackowski (LaFayette, N.Y. / LaFayette) had a great game as well, registering 24 assists and a team-high 17 digs.

On the defensive side, Erika Reakes (Central Square, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore) had one of her best weekends of the season out of the libero position. The sophomore garnered 12 digs while making no errors in the match against Canton.

The Wildcats will have one more home match on Wednesday versus Paul Smith's College before heading to Morrisville State for the year's second NEAC Crossover.
