MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Volleyball improved to 11-1 on the season by getting their first NEAC Conference win Friday night. The Wildcats defeated the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College by a score of 3-0.

SUNYIT dominated the first set en route to a 25-13 win. In the second set the Wildcats looked ready for a repeat performance in jumping out to a 6-1 lead before faltering with a serve into the net. The Wildcats answered right back, however, as Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y. / Freeport) slammed a perfectly set ball from Taviot Jackowski (LaFayette, N.Y. / LaFayette) to help SUNYIT stretch its lead.

Goodson was on point in the set, later landing a killer spike to give SUNYIT a 10-3 lead, then following it up with a block-slam that drew oohs and ahhs from the crowd. She would finish the night with 6 kills on 12 attempts while committing 0 errors, good for a stellar .500 hitting percentage.

Down 11-3 in the second set, the Chargers mounted a comeback. After a block from the Charger front line made it 11-4, the team went on a 10-5 run to pull within two at 16-14. Rachel Olson came up huge during the run, registering a stretch of three-straight points to get the Chargers back in the set.

Finally, with just a one-point lead at 20-19, the Wildcats pulled away, scoring five of the next six points to take the set 25-20. Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore), as she often does, grabbed the final point of the set with a fastball of a kill right to the middle of the Lancaster defense.

Also playing well for the Wildcats in the second set were Morgan Eberley (Utica, N.Y. / Whitesboro) and libero Erika Reakes (Central Square, N.Y. / Central Square). The two combined for an excellent play midway through the set, in which Reakes made a couple of great diving digs before Eberley finished the long rally with a diagonal spike that stayed just inside the boundary.

In the third SUNYIT again found themselves in a tight race toward the end, tied at 20-20. Luckily for the Wildcats, senior co-captain Jackowski came up with a great long bump that set up Harrington for a kill. SUNYIT rallied from there, closing out the set on a 5-0 run.

SUNYIT will be back in action on Saturday with the conclusion of 2013's first NEAC Crossover Weekend.  The Wildcats are scheduled for matches at 10:00 am and noon, with all matches taking place at the Wildcat Field House.
