Kaitlyn Harrington Named Tournament MVP as Wildcats Win Oswego State Tourney

OSWEGO, N.Y. - Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, N.Y. / Central Square) was named the MVP of the Oswego State Women's Volleyball Tournament Saturday afternoon, after leading the SUNYIT Women's Volleyall Team (9-1) to a 4-0 weekend and the tournament championship.

The Wildcats defeated host Oswego State along with St. Lawrence on Friday, then dispatched Utica and Marywood to take the tournament championsip.

The Wildcats sailed through the weekend without dropping a set. That isn't to say the weekend was without drama, however. In the team's first match of the weekend against the host Lakers, SUNYIT gutted out two close sets (25-22, 25-22), and then finished off the sweep with a 30-28 victory in the last set.

The trend continued on Saturday, as the Wildcats found themselves in a 23-16 hole in the third set against Utica before rallying to win the set (and match), 26-24.

Harrington registered 43 kills on the weekend, including an outstanding 17-kill performance in the opening against Oswego State.

Joining Harrington on the All-Tournament team for the weekend were fellow senior Hanne Saarinen (Lempaala, Finland / Tampereen Lyseon Lukio) and sophomore Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y. / Freeport).

Saarinen led or tied for the lead in kills in two of the Wildcats' matches, while Goodson was a model of efficiency in tallying an incredible three matches of 9 or more kills while at the same time hitting .400 or higher in each of those matches.

The Wildcats will look to keep the momentum going with their first home match of the season this Wednesday. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 pm vs. Hilbert.
