Women’s Volleyball Takes Two at Wells Invitational

AURORA, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Volleyball Team won their third- and fourth-straight matches on Saturday at the Wells College Invitational. After losing their first match of the year at SUNY Canton, the Wildcats have yet to lose a set in their last four matches en route to a 4-1 start to the season.

SUNYIT took down Utica in their first match, 3-0. [NOTE: An earlier score update incorrectly credited Utica with the win]. At time of publication stats were not yet available.

In the afternoon match, the Wildcats survived a second set scare from the host Express to win again in straight sets. SUNYIT scored double-digit victories in both the first and third sets while hanging on to win 27-25 in the middle set.

Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore) led the team in kills with 12 on the match while adding a 10 digs, which was second only to libero Erika Reakes (Central Square, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore), who registered a game-high 19.

Other contributors included senior Hanne Saarinen (Lempaala, Finland / Tampereen Lyseon Lukio) –who led the team with a .421 hitting percentage en route to 9 kills – and SUNYIT newcomer Morgan Eberley (Utica, N.Y. / Whitesboro), who committed just one error while adding 5 kills to the mix.

The Wildcats will get their crosstown rival again next, as they travel to the Utica campus for a 7 pm matchup this Wednesday.
