Erica Maisonet and Erika Reakes Take Home NEAC Athlete of the Week Awards

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Junior women's soccer player Erica Maisonet (Walkill, N.Y. / Walkill) and junior women's volleyball player Erika Reakes (Brewerton, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore) took home NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors in their respective sports on Monday, becoming the first Wildcat athletes to do so this fall. Excerpts from the NEAC press-release are included below.

Erica Maisonet (Walkill, N.Y.) has been chosen as the NEAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after terrific set of performances for the SUNY Institute of Technology Wildcats.  The junior led a Wildcat defense that recorded two shutouts while allowing just five total shots and only one shot on goal during a pair of NEAC victories.  Maisonet's play in the backfield helped keep Penn College off the scoreboard and allowed SUNYIT to squeak out the defensive battle with a 1-0 win Saturday.  She was at it again on Sunday, providing excellent defensive play while also adding a pair of goals in a shutout of College of St. Elizabeth to help the Wildcats start the year off 2-0 in conference play and improve to 2-1-1 overall.

Erika Reakes (Brewerton, N.Y.) has been selected as the NEAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after a strong week for the SUNY Institute of Technology Wildcats. The junior libero helped SUNYIT to a 2-1 record during play at the SUNY Potsdam Invitational this past weekend after racking up 55 digs for the Wildcats.  Reakes compiled a match-most 17 digs in a 3-1 win over SUNY Potsdam to open play Friday night before recording 38 digs across a pair of matches Saturday, including a season-high 33 digs in a 3-2 win over SUNY Plattsburgh to go along with two aces and a kill on her only attack attempt.  Reakes is currently second in the NEAC in digs with 94 through six matches for SUNYIT.
