Women's Soccer Cruises Past Albany to Break Program Record for Most Consecutive Wins with Six

ALBANY, NY – The SUNYIT women's soccer team continued its history-making season with a 5-1 victory over the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Thursday that broke the program record for most consecutive wins at six.  The Lady Wildcats now stand at 13-3 overall.

Even with two regular season contests still left on their schedule, the Lady Wildcats have already shattered multiple program records this year, including most wins, most assists and most points in a season.  Additionally, they are one two goals away from breaking that mark as well.

The Wildcats dominated the contest, holding Albany to just three shots on goal while firing off 11 of their own.  Junior Kristen Fitzgerald (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead when she found the back of the net off a corner kick delivered by sophomore Amanda Myers (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) 21 minutes into the contest.  Albany would answer eight minutes later when Frances Ripepi scored a goal off an assist from Alexa Schooley, but SUNYIT would quickly take back the lead a minute later when junior Nicole DiNitto (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) scored on a header off a pass delivered by freshman Amanda Bohne (Clay, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse).  SUNYIT would then give themselves a two-score lead when freshman Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) scored an unassisted goal two minutes before halftime to make it 3-1 at intermission.

The Wildcats would add two more goals in the second half to cruise the rest of the way, with senior Janasa Franco (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) scoring a goal that was assisted by freshman Amanda Zarek (Massapequa, NY/Farmingdale) and sophomore Brittany Piccione (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) scoring her first goal of the season on an assist from junior Kelley Waskiewicz (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany).

The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to take on NEAC rival Cazenovia College.  SUNYIT remains undefeated in conference play at 9-0 while Cazenovia stands at 6-3 in the NEAC.  Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
