Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated in NEAC with 4-1 Victory over Penn State Harrisburg

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT women's soccer team remained undefeated in the NEAC with a 4-1 victory over Penn State Harrisburg at the Wildcat Soccer Field Saturday.  The Lady Wildcats are now a perfect 6-0 in conference play and 8-3 overall, while Harrisburg fell to 3-1-1 in the NEAC and 5-3-1 overall.

The Wildcats fell behind early, as Harrisburg freshman Sarah Magnuson found the back of the net when she tapped in a rebound at 9:40.  SUNYIT responded eight minutes later when freshman Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) scored from in the box that was set by passes from junior Nicole DiNitto (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) and senior Lauryne Zinter (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater).  The Wildcats would then take the lead at the 40-minute mark when senior Janasa Franco (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) found herself wide open in the box after a beautiful cross pass from freshman Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) and fired a shot past Harrisburg goalie Brittany Adams to make it 2-1, with the score remaining that way at intermission.

Senior Jane Burroughs (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) made it 3-1 three minutes into the second half on a breakaway goal down the middle of the field that was set up by freshman Amanda Zarek (Massapequa, NY/Farmingdale).  SUNYIT controlled the game for the rest of the half and would seal the victory at the 89-minute mark on an unassisted goal by Strang.

"This was our best effort to date," said head coach Tyler Renaud.  "Franco's goal was superb and provided us with needed momentum going into the second half."

Freshman goalie Aubrey Campbell (Auburn, NY/Auburn) made four saves for SUNYIT, while Adams stopped seven shots for Harrisburg.

The Wildcats will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow when they host their newest NEAC rival Gallaudet University.  Game time is scheduled for noon.
