Burroughs Breaks All-Time Career Goals Mark as Lady Wildcats Trounce Wilson 11-1

UTICA, NY – SUNYIT senior Jane Burroughs (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) scored her 31st career goal to become the women's soccer program's all-time leader in that category and the Lady Wildcats cruised to an 11-1 victory over NEAC rival Wilson College at the Wildcat Soccer Field Sunday.  The Wildcats are now 2-0 in conference play and 4-1 overall, while Wilson fell to 0-2 in the NEAC and 0-4 overall.

Burroughs scored her record-setting goal at the 16-minute mark when she blasted a direct kick past Wilson goalie Kathryn Murphy.  The goal helped Burroughs break a tie with former teammate Traci Bickelhaupt ('10) and now leaves the 5-foot-9 midfielder as the program's all-time leader in goals, assists and points.

Nine different Lady Wildcats were able to score in this one, including juniors Nicole DiNitto (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) and Kelley Waskiewicz (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany), who each had two goals on the day.  Junior Kristen Fitzgerald (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) and freshman Amanda Zarek (Massapequa, NY/Farmingdale) each had one goal and one assist, while senior Lauryne Zinter (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) added two assists.

Courtney Bernecker scored Wilson's lone goal late in the second half, while Murphy registered 17 saves.

The Wildcats will look to continue their winnings ways on Wednesday, September 15 when they travel to take on Sage College.  The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm.
