Women's Soccer Has Three-Game Win Streak Snapped by Oswego State

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT women's soccer team had its three-game win streak snapped by the visiting Oswego State Lakers Tuesday, suffering a 3-0 loss in non-conference action at the Wildcat Soccer Field and falling to 7-3 overall.  Oswego improved to 5-3 on the year.

Oswego's Nikki Liadka and Toby Klein hooked up for a pair of goals in the first half, as Liadka scored two goals from in the box with both passes coming on crosses from the left wing from Klein.  The score would remain 2-0 until the 67-minute mark, when Oswego junior Lindsey Forte blasted a shot from the far right wing that slipped past SUNYIT freshman goalie Aubrey Campbell (Auburn, NY/Auburn) to essentially clinch the victory for the Lakers.

Campbell finished with eight saves on the day, while Christina Fregosi made two stops for Oswego.

"Oswego's speed made a huge difference in the match today and unfortunately we played right into it in the first 45 minutes, attempting the 'long ball' game versus our controlled 'small ball' game," explained head coach Tyler Renaud.  "As frustrated as I was with the first half of action, I thought the ladies put together a solid second half and withstood a lot of rushes by Oswego.  Playing six games in eight days is a lot to ask of any team, let alone in the heart of our conference schedule, so it was nice to get everyone time and rest our first 11 for the upcoming three matches in the next five days."

The Wildcats will look to rebound this Thursday when they travel to take on Albany College of Pharmacy.  The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm.
