Women's Soccer Stunned by Penn State Harrisburg in NEAC Tournament Semifinals

UTICA, NY – After finishing the regular season as the North Eastern Athletic Conference champions with a perfect 11-0 conference record, the SUNYIT women's soccer team was stunned by a 2-1 loss to No. 4 seed Penn State Harrisburg at Wildcat Field Saturday.

Harrisburg will now head to the NEAC Championship to take on No. 3 seed Keuka College, who upset No. 2 seed Penn State Berks 1-0 today.  The match will be at 3:00 pm tomorrow at Wehrum Stadium on the campus of Herkimer County Community College, which is the new site of the tournament due to unplayable conditions caused by rain at SUNYIT's Wildcat Soccer Field.

SUNYIT was able to take an early lead when freshman forward Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) scored a breakaway goal 12 minutes into the contest.  Harrisburg would tie the game when Shelly Erb sent a free kick to teammate Kara Hoy for a goal at 28:43, and the game would head to intermission with a 1-1 score.

After 16 minutes of scoreless play in the second half, Harrisburg's Jessie Manion would find the back of the net at 61:34 off a rebound and give Harrisburg a 2-1 lead.  SUNYIT remained aggressive on offense but could not put another score on the board thanks to five big second-half saves from Harrisburg goalie Brittany Adams, which allowed Harrisburg to hang on for the victory and advance to the title game.

Adams finished the contest with seven saves, while freshman goalie Aubrey Campbell (Auburn, NY/Auburn) stopped three shots for SUNYIT.

The Lady Wildcats finished season with a 15-4 overall record.
