Women's Soccer Blanks Cobleskill for Fourth Straight Victory

COBLESKILL, NY – The SUNYIT women's soccer team shut out NEAC rival SUNY Cobleskill 3-0 Saturday to win its fourth straight contest and remain undefeated in conference play.  The Lady Wildcats are now a perfect 9-0 in the NEAC and 11-3 overall.  Cobleskill fell to 3-6 in the NEAC and 5-9 overall.

The Wildcats dominated the contest, outshooting Cobleskill 20-8 and earning 11 corner kicks as opposed to two for their opponent.  The only score of the first half came at 27:38 when sophomore Amanda Myers (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) scored from freshman Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater).

 

The Wildcats added two goals in the second half, with junior Nicole DiNitto (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) scoring in the box on a pass from freshman Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) nine minutes into the half and junior Kelley Waskiewicz (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) sealing the victory with an unassisted goal at 87:32.

 

"On a day where the winds felt like they were reaching 30 miles per hour, we played controlled possession soccer and played timely through balls that led to our three goals," said head coach Tyler Renaud.

 

Freshman Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) had eight saves in the shut out, while Katelyn Benjamin stopped 17 shots for Cobleskill.
