WLAX: Wildcats Earn A Playoff Spot, Will Travel to Canton for A Showdown With the Kangaroos

Utica, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team is heading to the playoffs after finishing their season with a 6-8 record. The Wildcats secured the 4th seed in the tournament, thanks to their 4-3 record in conference play. They will get ready to square off with the #1 seeded SUNY Canton Kangaroos.

The Wildcats this season were led by senior attack/midfielder Katie Kopcza, who registered 81 points on 54 goals and 27 assists. Callie Johnson, Katelynn Truax and Madyn LaFleur all had 20 or more points this season for the Wildcats. Jayden Brown stood tall in net for the Wildcats the entire year, starting 10 games and finishing with a record of 5-8. Brown finished the year with 11.57 saves per game, the highest in the conference. She was also fourth in the conference with a .462 save percentage. 

SUNY Canton is coming off an 11-5 season with an undefeated record in conference play. Three Kangaroos finished the season with over 60 points, with Maddy Caron leading the way with 81. Olivia Scott defended the net 15 times for the Kangaroos, finishing the season with a 10-5 record and a .452 save percentage. 

In the one meeting between each other this season, SUNY Canton defeated the Wildcats by a score of 19-5. 10 different Kangaroos found the back of the net, with Caroline Nappi leading the charge with five goals on five shots. Abigail Rosaschi, Katie Kopcza and Callie Johnson were the goal scorers for the Wildcats. 

The round one matchup is scheduled for Saturday, May 4th at 3:00 P.M.at SUNY Canton.
