WLAX: Wildcats Earn a Non-Conference Win Over Hartwick.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team took down Hartwick on Wednesday on the road in a competitive 15-13 game. The win brings the Wildcats season record to 10-5. In the first half, the Wildcats and the Hawks traded goals back and forth in the first half with the lead changing hands four times in 30 minutes. The first half ended in a 7-7 tie. The second half was more of the same, but the Wildcats scored three of the last four goals of the game to earn the win.

 

TURNING POINT:

With the game tied and just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Kayla Prosinski (Endwell, N.Y.) netted her fifth goal of the game to give the Wildcats a 13-12 lead. Jenny Maxam (Clinton, N.Y.) would score her second goal of the game just under three minutes later to extend the Wildcat lead to two. Hartwick scored a goal with two minutes left in the game to bring the score within one. The Wildcats would hold strong on defense for the last two minutes and would add an insurance goal. Samantha Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) scored the insurance goal; it was her third of the game.

 

NOTABLES:

  • Kayla Prosinski led all scorers with nine points on five goals and four assists. She won 10 draw controls, two groundballs, and a caused turnover.

  • Jenny Maxam had seven points on two goals and five assists. The seven points tied her season high. She also had a ground ball.

  • Emily Somes (Elbridge, N.Y.) scored four goals on a team-high 16 shots. The junior forced a game-high four turnovers and had three ground balls.

  • Samantha Dayter scored three goals, had nine draw controls, and scooped up five ground balls.

  • Alycia Lugo (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) earned the win in goal for the Wildcats. She made four saves in the game. She is now 10-3 this season.  

  • GinaMarie Wilson was Hartwick's top scorer. She netted five goals and had three ground balls.

  • Hailey Pooler had four points on two goals and two assists. She also had two ground balls and a caused turnover.

  • Ashley Jablonowski was on the losing end of the goalkeeper decision. She made 19 saves on 34 shots faced.

  • Rachel Hedden and Emma Knapp each had three points for Hartwick. Hedden had two goals and an assist. Knapp had three goals.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will host their senior game on Saturday, April 27th at 12:00 PM. The Wildcats will face Morrisville in the last game of the 2019 season. The game will have playoff seeding implications as Morrisville currently sits in first place with an 8-0 NEAC record.
